maladies
1. Identiying plants/roots correctly is very important. Some plants are dangerous and can  cause many health problems. For example if you touch poison ivy it could create a rash on the part of skin the plant touches. Many of the plants are made into teas and if the wrong plants are used it could cause serious problems. This is why it is important to use the right plant.
2. It would be prudent to know a variety of species from other regions when dealing with medicine and food because different plants grow in different regions. Where a cure for burns might be a cactus in one region it could be aloe in another. Because you have different options you would be able to chose which would be the most suitable for you.
3. It makes a significant difference when traveling in different seasons. This is important because a plant that may be in season may not be in season somewhere else. So before searching for a specific plant it is vital to do research on what time a certain plant is in bloom. If it is not in bloom there are many other plants that would be in bloom that help with that certain maladie.
4. It would be important to develop a relationship with the local people because they would be more familiar with the species of plants in their area and may have already found specific uses for them.
5. I would feel very comfortable using a plant for external uses. This is because I have been doing extensive knowledge on the plants. But I do not believe I would be comfortable using plants for internal uses only because many plants look very similar but some can be very harmful if you use the wrong plant. Although this is true I still believe I have gained an immense amount of knowledge about medicinal uses of plants.
